Christo: Wrapped Coast
Streaming video - 1969
Known for his large scale environmental installations, Christo continuously redefines the way we interact with art. At times opposed or criticized by the media and community surrounding his projects, Christo remains relentless and steadfast in his work, transforming natural surroundings into something profoundly different. In 1969 Christo traveled to Australia where he wrapped a mile and a half of the continental coastline in mesmerizing synthetic fabric, calling it Wrapped Coast. Whether it be positive or negative, the artist’s creations consistently inspire a strong response and encourage us to think about the spaces we occupy and what they mean to our everyday lives.
