Review by Booklist Review

Woodworking remains a popular hobby and is experiencing a resurgence as part of the maker movement. For those wishing to get started or for a comprehensive basic guide to refer to, this book (previously published in 2010 as Woodwork) covers the fundamental tools and techniques in an attractive, easy-to-digest format. Color photographs are accompanied by short descriptions, making this an ideal guide for quick learning or workshop reference. DK's signature style featuring close-up photographs on white backgrounds is perfect for conveying this type of information. In addition to step-by-step guides for a variety of joinery techniques, 28 projects include cut lists, diagrams, required tools and materials, and tutorial style instructions (which assume that the reader has already internalized the previously explained techniques) with color photographs. Projects range from very basic cutting board and birdhouse to advanced furniture projects including a chest of drawers, glass-fronted cabinet, and gateleg table. Readers wishing to get started or further develop in woodworking will find this a useful guide to building a repertoire of both tools and skills.
