Food today is all about hyping the seasonal--using the freshest ingredients available at each time of year. Why shouldn't interior design follow suit? Author and blogger Smith (Cozy Minimalist Home, 2018) expands this notion by compiling four seasonal narratives, keeping her philosophy top of mind: live with imperfection and strive for cozy minimalism, i.e., the most design with the least amount of stuff. Each season features the five senses and a creative celebration, sans recipes, for hosting get-togethers, such as a Christmas drink bar or a summer lemonade bar. Occasional sidebars support her point of view: Mantels need to feature a statement piece, taking up about two-thirds of the space. Her list of "four summer tips especially for moms" will be useful for others, too. Whether covered or uncovered, outdoor spaces can benefit from different arrangements and looks in warm weather. Smith's colorful house photographs both inspire and lighten this somewhat copy-heavy book. Appendixes include Smith's hosting basics and her house through the seasons.
