Yours to keep

Lauren Layne

Book - 2020

"Pro baseball shortstop Carter Ramsey is about to be Citizen magazine's Man of the Year, but the only title that matters to him is out of reach: World Series MVP. Benched by a recent injury, Carter retreats to his hometown to recover. His ten-year class reunion and a potential reconciliation with the sweetheart he left behind could be perfect distractions. Until another old acquaintance throws Carter a curveball. Olive Dunn admits that her former high school science partner is still a handsome charmer. But she wasn't swayed then, and she won't be swayed now. Because Olive remembers Carter's little shortcoming: he tends to bail the moment it suits him, without a backward glance. Best to keep her feelings strictly pla...tonic while he's in town. Except the entitled boy she knew is a changed man: solid, reflective, and generous. As they ease back in to their familiar friendship, things take a surprising turn, and Carter and Olive must decide if what they have is a passing flirtation or a real shot at love."--Provided by publisher.

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

The feel-good second Man of the Year romance (after Yours in Scandal) turns from politics to the world of professional sports and transports readers to picturesque upstate New York, a departure from Layne's typical portraits of the sparkling New York City elite. This time, only the hero, major league baseball player Carter Ramsey, is well-off. When an injury benches Carter for the season, he heads to his sedate childhood hometown of Haven to recuperate in peace. His plan to stay under the radar proves impossible as his neighbor and former high school lab partner, Olive Dunn, decides to help him get settled, dragging him back into the community. Olive is attracted to Carter, but due to her deep-seated insecurities about her large, athletic body she's resigned to just being friends. But as they work out, practice softball, and plan their high school reunion together, feelings ignite on both sides. Layne throws very few external obstacles in the way of their relationship, which readers will appreciate because Olive and Carter are so obviously peas in a pod. This is a fun, easy romance. Agent: Nicole Resciniti, the Seymour Agency. (Sept.)
