New arrivals come to Ballybucklebo in Taylor's (Irish Country Family, 2019) heartwarming fifteenth novel in the popular Irish Country series. It's 1969, and Number-One-Main partners, doctors Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly and Barry Laverty, take on trainee Dr. Sebastian Carson despite reservations about his suitability for their practice. Sebastian joins the team, which also includes doctors Connor Nelson and Emer McCarthy and the matchless Kinky, who serves as cook, housekeeper, and office manager. Will Sebastian pass muster with the doctors and the Ballybucklebo folk? Why is he always eager to rush off at the end of his shifts? Dr. Laverty and his wife, Sue, are expecting their first child. The momentous reality of the dangers and responsibilities of parenthood weigh heavily on Barry as he encounters expectant mothers and sick babies on his daily rounds while Sue faces a bumpy pregnancy. Sectarian violence breaks out in parts of Ulster, men land on the moon, but the stories, shenanigans, and essential goodness of the doctors and townspeople continue to provide a welcome balm for their souls, and, in these tough times, for ours.
