"In her new memoir Brave Enough, 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist Jessie Diggins shares her story for the first time. The core of Brave Enough traces her amazing journey from the heartland of the United States into the history books of sports. The memoir details her childhood in Afton, Minnesota (an idyllic small town nestled in a virtual snow globe), her meteoric rise as an elite youth athlete (she turned pro straight out of high school), and her dazzling athletic achievements on the world stage (she is a four time World Championship medalist and one of the most decorated women's winter athletes of all time). She also addresses important, personal issues like the importance of girls participation in sports. As a little girl, Diggins had a favorite phrase--"I do it mineself!"--and she proceeded to prove that she could portage her canoe, split firewood, or clean a fish as well as the boys. With a competitive drive fueled by grit and guided by active parents who included their children in outdoor sporting adventures, she made U.S. sports history. At the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Diggins and teammate Kikkan Randall won the gold medal in women's team sprint freestyle cross-country skiing, ending a 42-year medal drought for Americans in the event. This is an authentically told, fast-paced memoir that follows Diggins from childhood as a multisport enthusiast before choosing to specialize in cross-country skiing. Diggins bravely yet matter-of-factly shares details about her success in overcoming bulimia. By sharing this story, Diggins will help educate readers and fight the stigma facing those suffering from eating disorders. An uplifting sports memoir told with compassion and vulnerability.
