Knife in the water Nóż w wodzie

DVD - 2003

A middle-aged journalist and his wife invite a footloose young hitch-hiker aboard their sail-boat for a Sunday outing in the Polish lake district. Like two peacocks, the men proceed to flaunt their virility before the woman, revealing a cynical sadism on the part of the husband and a growing resentment in the knife-wielding youth. This is Roman Polanski's first directorial effort.

Review by Library Journal Review

Roman Polanski's remarkable feature film debut powerfully explores the intrinsically competitive nature of men-especially in the presence of an attractive woman. An upper-middle-class couple picks up a college student hitchhiker and take him sailing on their small yacht. The experienced older man lords it over his callow guest in ways both subtle and obvious as they continually duel for dominance. Extras include a recent interview with the director, along with eight of his seminal early short films on a second disc. For all collections.(c) Copyright 2010.
