Most of Cate's family rallied around her, helping her put the pieces of her life back together. Years after the incident, however, Cate begins receiving anonymous phone calls that taunt her with the possibility that whoever was responsible for the crime may not be done with her. Fortunately, Cate has a strong support team, including sexy rancher and neighbor Dillon Cooper, as she seeks a way to put an end to the danger that threatens her and everyone she loves. Roberts (Under Currents, 2019) once again offers a master class in storytelling as she displays her formidable ability to portray easily relatable characters and engineer a plot spiked with chilling suspense and layered with life-affirming love, which, together, generate a captivating read.HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: There is no place readers can hide from the planned 1,000,000-copy laydown and multimedia PR campaign which promises to place Roberts on the best-seller lists once again.

An early trauma shapes the course of a woman's life in this impactful drama from Roberts (Under Currents). Ten-year-old Cate Sullivan is a fourth generation actor whose famous great-grandfather has recently died. At a celebration of his life, Cate is kidnapped and held for ransom, but she soon escapes to a nearby ranch. Once the police begin investigating, it becomes evident that Cate's mother planned the kidnapping as a way to make some quick money and is arrested. As Cate grows up, the shadow of what her mother did follows her; until, as a grown woman, she returns home and is reunited with Dillon, the boy whose family owns the ranch Cate escaped to after her kidnapping. But as Cate's feelings for Dillon develop, she once again becomes the target of threats--which may be linked to the recent release of her mother from prison. The action unfolds quickly, though some threads resolve too neatly and the main twists feel abrupt. Cate, meanwhile, is a gritty and charismatic but often unbelievable protagonist--even as a kid her instincts are perfect. Nonetheless, fans of Roberts's intense contemporary tales will enjoy this high-stakes love story. (May)

One awful night changed former child star Caitlyn Sullivan's life, but now she has returned to Los Angeles and Big Sur in hopes of moving past that childhood trauma. Yet the past does not want to stay there, and it is coming back with a vengeance. Cate must learn to trust again and survive this new danger, but she is not alone. Dillon Cooper, the boy who found her on the darkest night of her life, is there to help again. Roberts (Shelter in Place) brings readers another excellent, suspenseful romance that they will not be able to put down. She has created two new families with deep ties to each other and will make readers want to visit the beautiful landscapes she describes. Though some readers will likely figure out the twists and turns early in the book, the emotional investment Roberts creates and the slow sizzle of this romance will make them hold on to the end.
