She-Ra and the princesses of power Legend of the fire princess : an original graphic novel Legend of the fire princess :

Gigi D. G.

Book - 2020

"Even after everything that's happened, the world outside the Horde's walls is still a strange one to Adora. Each day she's learning more about her growing powers as She-Ra, including something new: the ability to heal corrupted runestones. Runestones are the magical source from which princesses like Frosta, Mermista, and Perfuma draw their power, but Glimmer knows of another runestone -- one with a dark past. Long ago a fire princess ruled the lands to the west, until her thirst for power corrupted her, and led to the ruin of her kingdom. Glimmer thinks the lost fire runestone could give the Rebellion an edge in the fight against the Horde, but claiming this ancient power won't be easy... especially not when the Ho...rde has their eyes set on the same prize."--Provided by publisher.

When the rebellion learns of a magical runestone that may be connected to the legendary Fire Princess, Adora and a team of powerful princesses are dispatched to destroy it--or find a way to harness the dangerous power. Meanwhile, the evil Horde has located the runestone as well, and Catra, Adora's best-friend-turned-archenemy, races to ambush the princesses. Fans of Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (created by Eisner-winning, Printz Honor Book creator Noelle Stevenson) will want to complete season one before enjoying this worthy addition to the She-Ra universe. This slim volume contains roughly a single episode's worth of story, but author D.G. does a tremendous job of telling a full mini-arc that captures the show's themes, voice, and character humor--and makes an especially noteworthy contribution to the relationship between Catra and her lieutenant, Scorpia. Ganucheau and De la Cruz's art is such a close facsimile of the show's that readers will forget they've got a book in their hands. A treat for fans of the TV series.

Review by Kirkus Book Review

A graphic-novel incarnation of Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power reboot. While the story assumes familiarity with the source materialit fits into the show's timeline some unspecified time after the first seasondialogue aided by visual coding (color palettes and characters' body language) allows total newcomers to quickly infer that Hordak's bad guys are battling the heroic Rebellion for the fate of Etheria. Both groups are headed to the ruined and abandoned city of Candila in search of a magical runestone, the Spirit Ember. The heroes, rallied by enthusiastic Glimmer, hope that recovering it first will enable Adora to use She-Ra's magic to heal the corrupted magicand at the least, they must stop the Horde from gaining its power. The art style matches the show's animation and displays the characters as diverse both racially and in terms of body shape. Additionally, the visuals are mapped out through the various beats of the lengthy action, emulating the pacing of a typical episode. While there is no overt romance, there's plenty of subtext (especially in Scorpia's desire to give Catra a pleasant picnic outing) for those who want it. What will really satisfy She-Ra fans is the space given to Adora and Catra's emotional conflict and broken friendship.Captures all of the charms of the animated show.
