Review by Library Journal Review

Hansard's previous title, Simple Green Smoothies, described how replacing processed foods and empty-calorie snacks with a more plant-based diet can restore energy. Here, she continues along the same path by offering straightforward advice-plants are critical to maintaining health. Practical information about pantry basics, essential kitchen equipment, food choices (organic, non-GMO), and sustaining good choices while traveling help to map a plan for the switch. The result is lots of raw or at least unprocessed foods in the recipes presented along with nutritional information about the role of ingredients, beyond calorie and vitamin content, in sustaining optimum health. Most recipes are vegan; however, both butter and eggs slip into a few, with vegan alternatives provided. Familiar ingredients and generally uncomplicated preparation underscore the author's intent while labeling for gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free informs about potential dietary concerns. -VERDICT Home cooks who enjoyed -Hansard's smoothies will want this transition into whole meals.-Jeanette McVeigh, formerly Univ. of the Sciences, Philadelphia © Copyright 2018.
