Riffing off the prompt "Christmas is," the sisters Moyle--the creative team behind letterpress studio Hello!Lucky--jubilantly show Christmas to be seriously awesome in their latest board book. With neon pink accents, energetic scenes burst with holiday merrymaking. A motley crew of animals enjoy "falling snow" with sledding and snow creatures, while a sweater-clad dachshund takes advantage of "mistletoe" by giving a cat's cheek a long-tongued lick. Even a lump of coal gets in on the fun, knitting an "ugly sweater" from "darkest black abyss" yarn. Other humorous touches appear throughout, including a nativity scene featuring two birds as Mary and Joseph and an egg as the infant Jesus. The duo brightly conclude with an invitation that's perfectly on-brand: "Joy and kindness, love and fun... Christmas is for everyone!" Ages up to 3. (Oct.)

The sisters behind the board books My Mom Is Magical, My Dad Is Amazing, and Super Pooper and Whizz Kid: Potty Power! (and Hello!Lucky greeting cards) present a bright, energetic board-book spin on Christmas. Rhyming text describes, mostly in two-words-per-line couplets, what "Christmas is": "twinkling lights, / silent nights...writing letters, / ugly sweaters!" Stylish neon-hued, digital-looking illustrations depict a variety of creatures displaying their holiday spirit (e.g., an elephant sports reindeer antlers), with an entertaining visual subplot about a Grinchlike personified lump of coal. The enthusiasm is infectious, and the hot pink pops. At the end: "Joy and kindness, love and fun... / Christmas is for everyone!" Even that mischievous piece of coal is won over by a gift-bearing Santa: "For me?" Elissa Gershowitz November/December 2019 p.32(c) Copyright 2019.
