Matewan

DVD - 2019

In 1920s Mingo County, West Virginia coal miners struggling to form a union are up against company operators and gun thugs. Black and Italian miners, brought in by the company to break the strike, are caught between two forces: Union activists and ex-Wobbly Joe Kenehan (Chris Cooper), sent to help organize the union by bringing the local, Black, and Italian groups together. Inspired by a true story many were killed in the Matewan Massacre, but the young Danny Radnor, a coal miner and preacher, lived to spread the gospel of union.
