While there are many knitting patterns available for stuffed animals, there are fewer that include clothing for those animals, and even fewer with clothing that can be fully removed and used on other softies. Crowther does all of the above with the 13 intermediate-level patterns for animals included here, ranging from those commonly kept as family pets to farm animals and woodland critters. All are anthropomorphic and utilize the same basic form (head, body, two arms, and two legs), with variations such as ears, fur, tails, and face shape specific to a particular creature. Each animal is provided an outfit that shows off its intended personality, including pieces such as shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, overalls, and coats, and many include accessories such as shoes, bags, and scarves. Finished animals measure approximately 16 inches high and the clothing is interchangeable. All patterns are written, with charts provided only for small colorwork sections on two garments. Also included are a guide to cast on methods and the stitches used and an index.--Anne Heidemann Copyright 2019 Booklist

Amelia the Duck, Charlotte the Fox, and Harry the Ram are just a few of the adorable, and nattily attired, animal toys that can be made from the designs in this beautiful book from Crowther (My Knitted Doll), creator of the Boo-Biloo knitting pattern brand. The bodies of the 13 dolls are all quite similar, and Crowther encourages knitters to be creative by mixing and matching them with any of the tiny sweaters, shorts, and other garments included. Before beginning on a project, aspiring doll makers should note that the charming patterns-there are more than 40 in total-are also quite small, requiring very small knitting needles, US size 2 for the animals and 2A½ or 4 for their outfits. Tiny clothing pieces, such as Noah the Horse's denim overalls, Tilly the Hare's Fair Isle cardigan and George the Dog's sassy red bandana, are all miniature versions of items one might make for life-sized family and friends, and demand comparable skill. Advanced knitters looking for a new challenge will find one in Crowther's beautiful designs, and children will love the whimsical results. (June) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
