Review by Booklist Review

An array of animal noses is on display in this entry in the Animal Part Smarts series (6 titles), which is designed with the youngest readers in mind. The well-labeled pictures take center stage, while simple, declarative sentences assist emerging readers as they make their way through the book. A beginning photo glossary provides structure and a preview of what's to come, and the animals included vary interestingly: a pug has a short nose, and a horse has a long one, but the anteater (""This nose sniffs"") and star-nosed mole (""This nose feels"") use their snouts in intriguing ways. Clear, repetitive text and a simple index and review section introduce a new audience to the basics of nonfiction, and the animal pictures, adorable and unusual, will do much to engage.--Maggie Reagan Copyright 2010 Booklist
