Review by Booklist Review
Third-grade teacher Schwartz's first book I Wish My Teacher Knew (2016) was born when she spurred a viral trend on social media in which teachers shared their students' answers to the prompt in its title. In her new book, she takes a broader look at children's wishes. Schwartz contends that in a complex and changing world, in which students must deal with challenges such as online bullying and school shootings, it's critical to listen to what children would change and give them the tools to navigate power structures and achieve such improvements. Drawing from her own classroom experiences, education research, stories from other educators around the country, and student essays, she examines concepts such as fairness, confidence, choices, assertiveness, kindness, and values. Schwartz offers practical and engaging advice for teachers, parents, coaches, and other adults in how to engage, guide, and support children in and out of the classroom.--Aleksandra Walker Copyright 2019 Booklist
