This installment in the Brilliant Women series (4 titles) opens with a startling statistic ­ only between three and five percent of the artworks on display in the most famous galleries across Europe and the USA are by women artists and the colorful, brief biographies of artists and designers that follow demonstrate what an oversight that is. The women featured vary in background, medium, and era, and together they show a rich picture of the history of women in the arts. While none of the profiles is particularly comprehensive, and the lack of reproductions of the artists' works is disappointing, the impressive scope, which includes folk artists, architects, and fashion designers among the usual suspects, will go a long way toward introducing a diverse array of women in the arts to young readers.--Sarah Hunter Copyright 2018 Booklist
