Review by Booklist Review

This shark-tastic entry in the Just Ask! series (2 titles) deploys its facts through an engaging Q&A format and playful tone. A surprising amount of trivia can be gleaned from its watery pages, from sharks' ability to sense electricity to ancient tangles with dinosaurs to close-up photos of sharks' denticles and dentition. Typically, a large shark photo occupies a little over half of a page, with a corresponding question printed in large font; the answer follows immediately underneath. For instance, a dramatically lit shark skeleton is paired with the query, Do they have bones? After declaring NOPE, a swift description of cartilage is provided. The pictures and large-print portions work especially well for beginning readers, while the brief info-packed paragraphs extend the book's appeal to those in primary grades.--Julia Smith Copyright 2019 Booklist

Review by Horn Book Review

This well-organized question-and-answer book leads readers through a selection of facts, including descriptions of sharks and related species, their food sources, and how they care for their young. The questions range from standard, such as a focus on shark teeth, to creative connections to science concepts ("Do sharks fly?"). Lots of up-close shark photographs are set against colorful backgrounds. Glos., ind. (c) Copyright 2021. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
