The characters in this book are all ears! Well, oversize Eric Ear is anyway. Along with his friend, Harry Hearing Aid, they help young children understand what hearing aids are and how they work in this volume in the Human Body Helpers series (4 titles). Accompanied by large-scale, cartoonish (but never condescending) digital illustrations and diagrams of the inner ear, the simple text begins with an overview of the purpose of ears and continues with explanations of both behind-the-ear and in-the-ear hearing aids. In a reassuring tone, it also describes how hearing is evaluated by an audiologist, how hearing aids are customized to fit the wearer, and how the experience of wearing hearing aids may take some initial adjustment. Children will find this book useful and supportive. Grades 1-3. Copyright 2019 Booklist Reviews.
