Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Candace, a vivacious girl with a pet hamster and sandy hair, loves to dance. But when her mom signs her up for ballet class, "Candace was more interested in shakes and shimmies than pliAcs and relevAcs." The child works hard alongside the more self-assured ballerinas but has trouble learning the steps in time for the recital; she just prefers to dance her own way. When the curtain rises, however, the other ballerinas are overcome with nerves. Candace's shimmying proves contagious and helps the others to feel more at ease. Actress Bure's message isn't subtle ("The girls thanked Candace, who showed them anything's possible if you work hard and have the courage to be yourself"). Even so, Candace is a relatable heroine who moves to the beat of her own drum. Ages 4-8. (Oct.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
