"India is considered one of the great ancient civilizations of the Old World. From the earliest settlements along the Indus River to the golden age of the Gupta Empire, the cultural contributions of ancient India are an important component of the human story. Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 2-5-Six ancient civilizations are introduced in this series. Information is primarily focused on political events, leaders, and dates. Sidebars and captions labeled "Make the Grade" provide tidbits about arts and cultural practices. Short sentences give only the most basic of facts; the condensed information is made accessible to early elementary students. Stock photography offers little to explore or discover, but the layouts are eye-catching and aid comprehension. The inclusion of ancient India provides some balance to the usual ancient cultures covered in similar series. Glossaries, maps, and time lines are helpful additions. VERDICT A solid series covering familiar territory, these books are good for libraries looking to update their ancient history collections. © Copyright 2019.
