Davina MacCallum has to be joking. There is simply no way on God's green earth that Eric Marshall, Duke of Brentworth, is going to hand over part of his estate even a relatively trivial piece of land in Scotland to Davina just because she claims she has evidence that she is the rightful heir to Baron Teyhill's now-lapsed title. However, in order to prove Davina is a fraud, Eric will have to devote a significant portion of his day to being with her to demonstrate once and for all just how hopeless her claim really is. Of course, the more Eric gets to know Davina, the more he begins to think there could be worse ways to spend his time. In the third of her Decadent Dukes Society series, following The Most Dangerous Duke in London (2017) and A Devil of a Duke (2018), the originality of Hunter's plotting and the skill with which she executes it are exemplary. These, combined with her usual superb flair for crafting compelling characters (her sketch of George IV alone is worth the price of the book), make this a must-read for fans of sexy Regency-set historicals.--John Charles Copyright 2019 Booklist

Hunter's final Decadent Dukes Society Regency (after A Devil of a Duke) entices with a strong heroine who refuses to be impressed by the hero's stuffy manners. Davina MacCallum is working as a tutor in London while she seeks to prove that her grandfather was a Scottish baron whose lands were wrongfully taken by the English Crown. Eric Marshall, Duke of Brentworth, is now the owner of those lands and believes that Davina's claim is fraudulent. When Davina leaves London for Scotland to search for evidence of her family's claims, Brentworth follows her, intrigued by her persistence. As they spend more time together, Davina sees through Brentworth's proper exterior to the kind, generous man inside, and he admires her selflessness and medical skills. As the physical attraction between them grows, they must decide whether they can set aside their personal animosities over the disputed lands and form a lasting relationship. Readers who like slow-simmering romance will find much to appreciate about these intelligent, forthright characters and their cautious journey toward love. Agent: Pamela Hopkins, Hopkins Literary.
