Review by Booklist Review

With step-by-step instructions and a few craft items, the project books in the I Am Not A . . . series (2 titles) demonstrate how a single item can be recycled into many engaging things. Each volume in the series zeros in on one object that, at first glance, seems destined for the trash, but 10 activities will soon show readers the error of their ways. Less versatile but just as entertaining, I Am Not a Toilet Paper Roll presents the creative ways in which this ubiquitous object can become a mermaid, a pirate, or a ninja (with the creators taking care to represent a variety of skin colors). Each activity is granted two double-page spreads one sets the scene, offering a supply list, staging instructions, and trivia, while a second contains stepped instructions and activity extensions. The ending cutout and design sections are easily photocopied, making these activity books more classroom- and library-friendly than most. The playfully designed series, which encourages creative, out-of-the-box thinking, is mostly just for fun but what fun it is!--Maggie Reagan Copyright 2019 Booklist
