Review by Booklist Review

For readers who want to try their gloved hands at making their own versions of the handmade soaps for sale at farmers markets and craft fairs, Faiola offers a great introduction. For starters, she doesn't wash her hands of the background, the equipment needed, and the safety precautions home soapmakers must take. Before delving into the recipes, Faiola introduces readers to the chemistry behind the soapmaking process, both in general and, more specifically, in terms of making soaps from both dairy and nut-based milks. The instructions are clearly described and, when combined with visual examples of the steps, make the process as natural as the ingredients being used. The recipes are divided into three sections beginner, intermediate, and advanced so that makers at any level of experience can find value in what the book has to offer.--Mary Kravenas Copyright 2019 Booklist
