Review by Booklist Review

The current interest in alternative medicine makes this handbook a good addition to public- and consumer-health-library collections. Chevallier, a British medical herbalist, offers an excellent introduction to the topic. He provides comprehensive information about growing herbs, preparing remedies, and using them safely, while encouraging users to consult health-care practitioners before adding these remedies to their treatment plans. The alphabetical listings for plants include color illustrations, parts of the plant used, conditions treated, and a text box with safety information. An appendix lists common health problems with references to appropriate herbs. A glossary and resource list provide further information. The detailed safety information and guidelines for purchasing herbal medicines make this a valuable resource.--Barbara Bibel Copyright 2018 Booklist
