Before Lady Regina Haversham finds herself married off to a man more interested in her dowry than herself, she would like to experience one night of pure passion with a man she finds desirable, and for Regina that man is Bow Street Runner Daffin Oakleaf. Unfortunately for Regina, Daffin wants nothing to do with her unconventional offer. But that all changes when Regina's cousin Nicole arranges for her husband to hire Daffin as a temporary bodyguard for herself and Regina. Now, with the holiday season fast approaching, and given all the time they will be spending together, Regina is certain that she can get Daffin to change his mind and give her the gift she has always wanted. Bowman's latest Playful Brides romance might require more than the usual willing suspension of disbelief on the part of readers serious about accurate historical details, but those who enjoy a fast-paced story line spiced with danger and plenty of sizzling sensuality will be delighted to unwrap Kiss Me at Christmas.--John Charles Copyright 2019 Booklist

Bowman's 10th Playful Brides Regency (after A Duke like No Other) sizzles with sensuality and mystery. Determined to experience one night of passion with the man of her choice, Lady Regina Haversham propositions Bow Street Runner Daffin Oakleaf, begging him to take her virginity before she is forced to wed the Earl of Dryden. Though attracted to Regina, Daffin turns her down because of her impending engagement and his friendship with her cousin, Mark Grimaldi, who's both Marquess of Coleford and the Secretary of the Home Office. Mark is alarmed when Regina and his wife, Nicole, are separately involved in carriage accidents, and hires Daffin to protect the women. The magnetic attraction between Regina and Daffin heats up as they spend more time in close quarters, and their friendship and romance blossom, but the class difference means a future together is unlikely. Memorable characters, rich sensuality, and mystery will entice readers from the very first page. Agent: Kevan Lyon, Marsal Lyon Literary. (Nov.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
