"Nicholas, the illegitimate son of a retired fencing champion, is a scrappy fencing wunderkind, and dreams of getting the chance and the training to actually compete. Review by Library Journal Review

The world of competitive fencing is an intensely cutthroat affair, more so if you're an outsider trying to break in. Sixteen-year-old Nicholas Cox is a talented upstart with no formal training but immense raw talent and desperation to enter the exclusive world of fencing competition. Senji Katayama is a polished, undefeated champ who quickly becomes his rival after a heated face-off at the regional circuit. Humiliated by defeat and Senji's obnoxious attitude, Nicholas vows to beat him. Sometime later, the two boys find themselves roommates at Kings Row, a prestigious private school with a competitive fencing team. Determined to make the cut and keep his scholarship, Nicholas will stop at nothing to show Senji and the rest of the school what he's got. Pacat (The Captive Prince) delivers a complicated story of rivalry, romance, and school spirit, and fan-favorite Johanna the Mad debuts beautiful character depictions in stunning, full-color panels. VERDICT Anyone who enjoys the intensity of competition will find this new series appealing. Fans of sports manga should especially pay attention, as there's just the right mix of action and heartfelt storytelling to leave readers wanting more.
