Review by Library Journal Review

A 1950s-era rural Texas family-proto-typically strict dad (Brad Pitt), doting mom (Jessica Chastain), and three sons-are the focus of Terrence Malick's existential meditation on life as a duel between nature and grace. Offered in an extended cut (along with the original theatrical version) that enhances the stream of elliptically edited scenes and pensive voice-over, this Tree still cannot shake its own struggle between sketchily relatable narrative and undeniably awesome cinematography, particularly in flashbacks to prehistory. A bit problematic but merits a reckoning. [See Trailers, LJ 7/18] © Copyright 2018. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
