Review by Library Journal Review

This PBS series travels the globe to profile innovative artists. Season 8 visits Chicago, Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Vancouver, BC, showcasing four artists from each city who employ singular techniques in unexpected ways. Chicago's Nick Cave constructs "sound suits" out of layers of sticks, metals, plastics, and fabrics that rub together to make noise. Mexico City artist Damián Ortega uses everyday objects such as chairs, forks, and spoons to create carousels and other structures. In Vancouver, sculptor and multidisciplinary artist Brian Jungen designs a series of aboriginal masks from Nike sneakers. Along with 13 more creators, this inspiring series explores their methods and inspirations. VERDICT An excellent program that will be of interest to artists, students, and general viewers.-Phillip Oliver, formerly with Univ. of North Alabama, Florence © Copyright 2017.
