Review by Library Journal Review

The celebrated humanist master Jean Renoir (Rules of the Game; Grand Illusion) intended his short film Day to be part of an "omnibus" that was never completed. City folk mother and daughter are romanced by a pair of locals during a rural idyll-an encounter that leaves the latter wistful years (and a marriage) later. Set alongside the Ganges, River offers a poignant meditation on British colonial life in India from the viewpoint of a preteen girl-cum-grown-up. "Day" is a tender curio; "River" runs longer and deeper. © Copyright 2015. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
