The second edition updates information on both ends of the time line, from the emergence of humanoids to 2017, incorporating cultural, social, economic, political, intellectual, and artistic events of the world. Two-page spreads each cover a specific year range using pictures, illustrations, and graphs that introduce the major inventions, concepts, artifacts, wars, and people of the era, with the time line of world events running at the bottom of the page. Each of the eight chapters also includes specific topics such as the history of writing, money, printing, and more, and the book concludes with a glossary and an index. By illustrating simultaneously occurring world events, Timelines of History gives a wider appreciation of all cultures. This book is recommended for casual readers, trivia buffs, and grade- and high-school students.--Jacob, Merle Copyright 2018 Booklist

From the appearance of hominins (about seven million years ago) to North Korea's nuclear missile test in 2017, key events worldwide find a place in this chronology compiled by contributors from the Smithsonian Institution and other subject experts. Wars and plagues overlap with artistic milestones and scientific advancements. Frequent two-page topic coverage delves deeper in some areas, including money, arms and armor, and genetics. VERDICT An excellent overview to history, with a place in all school and public -libraries.-Maggie Knapp, Trinity Valley Sch., Fort Worth, TX © Copyright 2018.
