Review by Booklist Review

The latest installment of DC's SuperHero Girls series finds the titular team of heroines getting ready for the spring dance, investigating an explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs, and puzzling over the mayor's mysterious behavior. While Barbara Gordon tries to fix up her commissioner dad with a date, Lois noses around the lab, uncovering unusual clues about its activities, a connection to the mayor, and a seemingly innocuous program for eager kids. Labat's sleek, candy-colored artwork matches the breezy mood of the story and renders the characters in a style that echoes their classic comic-book origins. Things take a turn when Barbara's scheme collides with the investigation, and Lois finds herself on the trail of a bigger story than she'd ever hoped for. A subplot about journalism's responsibility to hold powerful individuals and organizations in check adds unexpected depth to the somewhat fluffy narrative. With a speedy pace, an episodic structure, and a sunshiny happy ending, this action-packed, girl-powered comic will likely please middle-grade readers who liked Gotham Academy.--Hunter, Sarah Copyright 2018 Booklist
