Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and journalist Pilger (Year Zero: The Silent Death of Cambodia) directs, narrates, and stars in this film about the United States' escalating policy of aggression toward China. Currently, the existence of more than 400 U.S. military bases around China, Pilger argues, could lead to nuclear war. Beginning with footage of the American military testing an atomic bomb at Bikini atoll in the 1940s, Pilger's chronicle displays a steady stream of U.S. actions up to the present day intended to intimidate and threaten China. Specific moves, such as the building of new bases on the islands of Okinawa and Jeju against the wishes of residents, are examined through interviews with scholars, politicians, and island inhabitants. Pilger closes with an upbeat message speaking out against military activity. VERDICT Viewers wishing to learn more about China and America's foreign policy and the possibility of a war between the two nuclear powers should watch this film.-Jason L.
