Review by Library Journal Review

In a lonely farmhouse, a life-and-death struggle is under way. In the upper half of the house, two people lock themselves in hoping to create a temporary sanctuary from a group of slow-moving, semi-cognizant zombies, returned to life by an unknown phenomenon, with the overwhelming desire to eat the living. Hidden in the basement are a frightened family with an injured child and a young couple who are afraid to get involved in what they hear in the house above. Around the perimeter, the swelling ranks of the hungry cadavers continue to look for a way to gorge on the tasty humans. The film that launched a thousand screams, Night of the Living Dead is an American horror classic as well as an engaging, multi--interpretation exploration of social and political themes affecting America in the late 1960s. VERDICT Lovingly restored by Criterion, with a healthy heaping of vital extras and commentary, this is the definitive edition of a seminal example of horror cinema.
