Review by Library Journal Review

Craft instructor Johns (coauthor, Embroidery for the Absolute Beginner) walks novice sewists through nine techniques commonly used in machine sewing, including basic stitches and seams, hems, casings, piping, inserting zippers, and freehand machine embroidery. Each technique includes an overview of the topic, followed by a project intended to reinforce the skills taught in the tutorial (as well as build on skills covered in earlier sections). Illustrations rather than photographs are used to depict instructions, which is helpful because there are a variety of sewing machines on the market, and no two look exactly alike-however, a couple of projects do not include images of the finished item. VERDICT The topical approach is great for sewists interested in information on a single topic. This guide also provides an outline for a basic overview of sewing skills. © Copyright 2017.
