Review by Booklist Review

Fischer, who rose to fame playing Pam on the hit NBC comedy The Office, offers up practical advice to aspiring actors who are setting out on their career paths. Using examples from her own career as well as those of fellow thespians, Fischer manages to be both realistic and encouraging. She doesn't hold back when detailing her years of struggling to make ends meet working day jobs, finding representation, and booking auditions (including one hilarious misstep where she tried to sneak into an audition she wasn't booked for), but she's also positive and inspiring, filling the book with quotes from famous actors about persistence paying off and failure being the road to success. Fischer guides readers through taking acting classes, finding representation, and understanding the do's and don'ts on set as well as issuing warnings about common scams that target hopefuls. She does share anecdotes from her time on The Office, but overall, Fischer's book is exactly what it's billed as: a helpful, essential guide that is certain to help aspirants navigate their own careers and keep hope alive while doing so.--Huntley, Kristine Copyright 2017 Booklist
