Review by Kirkus Book Review

Lily, a bunny, and Milo, a mouse, have fun identifying colors throughout their playtime. As they head outside, they look for their red boots, a green shovel in the sandbox, yellow balloons within a full bunch, a blue wagon, and, back home, a glass of orange juice, and colored markers. A bit of intrigue and mild drama are added as Milo splashes Lily with his red boots, then throws sand all over her, and loses his yellow balloon. Lily, who is bigger and wears a flowered dress, appears to be more astute, responsible, and neateras a typical older sister might be. Milo, dressed in plaid overall shorts, is both smaller and younger in his attitude, messy, and prone to crying when upset. Through it all Lily patiently absolves him of any wrongdoing and even shares her balloon with him when his deflates. Large, black-outlined characters and objects painted in bold, bright colors appear on sturdy, shiny pages. Each scene asks readers to participate by finding the correct color and object among several. "Milo's cart is blue. Do you see it anywhere?" reads the uncredited translation from the Dutch. Children are given a hint as to which hue they are looking for as Milo and Lily stand against a corresponding blue background. These lovable characters in simple, recognizable scenes will easily engage toddlers in basic language development. (Picture book. 18 mos.-3) Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
