Il posto

DVD - 2003

"When young Domenico ventures from the small village of Meda to Milan in search of employment, he finds himself on the bottom rung of the bureaucratic ladder in a huge, faceless company. The prospects are daunting, but Domenico finds reason for hope in the fetching Antonietta. A tender coming-of-age story and a sharp observation of dehumanizing corporate enterprise, Ermanno Olmi's Il Posto is a touching and hilarious tale of one young man's stumbling entrance into the perils of modern adulthood"--Container.

Review by Library Journal Review

In the tradition, if not the league, of neorealist films such as Open City and The Bicycle Thief, Ermanno Olmi's very leisurely paced picture of the working class deals with a young man who finds a job-and a chance at romance-in a dull bureaucracy. Thanks to digital restoration, the image quality is nearly pristine. Extras on the DVD include a brief interview with the Olmi, a subsequent short film of his shown on television, and a demonstration of the restoration process. For larger collections.
