Review by Booklist Review

First he lived in a pineapple under the sea, and now he can live on your bookshelves. The irrepressibly sunny SpongeBob SquarePants has appeared in an eponymous comic book for a while now, and this slim volume collects a variety of stories originally published there. The comics perfectly match the tone of the show, from the humor to the visual style, with a few notable exceptions, and the writers and artists of each comic make great use of the medium. One story features SpongeBob torn between working at the Krusty Krab and spending the day jellyfishing, so he literally tears himself down the middle and does both! In a very clever visual device, the two story lines play out in rows of panels that ribbon across several pages, occasionally intersecting when both SpongeBobs say the same thing. Though fans might get the most out of these comical, frenetically illustrated comics, the jokes and stories should still entertain readers unfamiliar with the cartoon. A second installment, Aquatic Adventurers Unite!, is being released simultaneously.--Hunter, Sarah Copyright 2010 Booklist
