Gering is known not only for her modern, minimalist quilts but also for her intricate machine quilting, which she does on a high-end sewing machine using a walking foot. Gering guides quilters through the process of quilting using a walking foot, starting with basic designs featuring straight, parallel lines and proceeding into more complex patterns incorporating angles, curves, and intersecting lines. Each design features a diagram showing how the shape was formed, which breaks the quilting down into pieces that combine into a beautiful and intricate whole. Gering also includes tips for quilting with decorative stitches, and for reverse quilting, which uses backward stitching for interesting effects. VERDICT Quilting with a walking foot is well within reach of any quilter with a sewing machine, and Gering's guide will open quilters' eyes to machine quilting possibilities beyond free-motion techniques. © Copyright 2017.
