Jansen, a quilt shop owner and fabric designer, presents 12 quilts designed to make use of fat quarters, a fabric cut popular with quilters. Each pattern includes a list of how much fabric is needed, including the number of fat quarters required, plus a cutting chart specific to fat quarters, which minimizes fabric waste. Designs range from simple piecing with common patchwork units such as half-square triangles or flying geese, to a show-stopping variation on a New York Beauty block using foundation paper piecing and raw-edge appliqué. Each quilt is also photographed in a natural setting in Jansen's native Australia, providing a window to one of her inspirations. VERDICT Jansen's debut book will move quilters beyond the traditional uses for this versatile cut. © Copyright 2016. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
