Craft blogger Green (100 Appliqué -Motifs) here explores the potential of Sharpies, demonstrating a variety of applications for embellishing everyday objects, clothing, and accessories. Different Sharpies have different uses-the original markers are best for most surfaces (except plastics or ceramics), the oil-based paint markers can be used on all surfaces except those that will be in contact with food, and Stained by Sharpie fabric markers are fade- and wash-resistant on textiles. Green divides the projects into general categories (e.g., at your desk, fashion and accessories, great for gifts, home decor, on the tabletop, and furniture) for employing Sharpies on premade surfaces. The style is trendy, with midcentury modern motifs mixing with cute, simple line illustrations. While some of the designs are free-form and abstract, Green includes traceable templates for others and provides a tutorial on using graphite paper to transfer the design. -VERDICT Using Sharpies to draw on stuff isn't a novel concept-this reviewer adorned a pair of white Converse with the markers back in the 1990s-but Green's ideas and tips may prove beneficial to crafters. Teens may also enjoy these inexpensive ways to customize and personalize -otherwise dull objects. © Copyright 2016. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
