Review by Booklist Review

These additions to the Seedlings series will appeal most to very young children and emerging readers. The text is brief and extremely simple, featuring one or two short sentences per page. Each book begins with a beautiful full-spread photo and the words Hello, topic! before introducing the animal or ecosystem at hand. Another large picture, often featuring a sunset, concludes with a fitting Goodbye, which is followed by a two-page photographic spread with labeled components and sometimes insets. Their overall simplicity means that the content feels a bit thin, even for young readers. The books do introduce a few relevant vocabulary words, which are included in a brief glossary at the end of the book. Kangaroos has slightly stronger content than the others in the series, with a glimpse at the various kinds of kangaroos in Australia, but the gorgeous, varied photos are the true star of these shows. From breathtaking landscapes to stunning animal close-ups, each photo is well chosen and sure to catch the eye of everyone, from the youngest children to adults. The books will fit well into a home, library, or classroom collection.--Aronin, Miriam Copyright 2016 Booklist
