Sasha Petraske's legendary bar, Milk and Honey on New York's Lower East Side, reinvigorated cocktail culture by focusing on simplicity and elegance when crafting drinks. Intended as a guide for home cocktail bars, this work begins with a basic setup (glasses, bar equipment, and ingredients to stock) and tips for serving your guests. The heart of the book is the cocktail recipes, whether traditional (the highball, the old-fashioned) or Milk and Honey creations (the Gold Rush, the Tritter Rickey). With a base of five libations that are similar to the drink families in Gary Regan's The Joy of Mixology, the author showcases twists on each traditional recipe. Since Petraske's death in 2015, it is fitting that the recipes are accompanied by remembrances of those around and influenced by him. Following Petraske's tenet of simplicity, recipes are uncomplicated and easy to follow. In the finale, a number of guides are provided that include Milk and Honey bar behavior rules. -VERDICT -Cocktail aficionados and amateur bartenders will find much to enjoy in this helpful guide.-Ginny Wolter, Toledo-Lucas Cty.
