Gr 1-3-On the eve of the Butterfly Ball, the recently erected statue for the Spirit of Tuptown Prize goes missing. It's only appropriate for Pigsticks, a "first-class detective," to crack the case before the big occasion. Pigsticks must follow in the footsteps of his great uncle, the infamous Hercule Pigot. Every detective needs assistance, so Pigsticks employs his dear friend Harold to join the investigation. As the detective duo begin searching Tuptown high and low for clues, more noteworthy items go missing. Pigsticks launches a full-scale investigation, but can he and Harold find the thief before the town's celebrations? Another clever tale from Milway gives emerging readers an excellent series to sink their teeth into. His ink renditions of the Tuptown characters and graphic novel elements will appeal to comic lovers. VERDICT Riddled with humor and visual clues, this giggle-inducing mystery is a sure bet for young readers.-Claire Moore, Darien Library, CT © Copyright 2015. In their second adventure (Pigsticks and Harold and the Incredible Journey), self-appointed detective Pigsticks and his hamster sidekick, Harold, race to find a thief on the loose in Tuptown so the annual Butterfly Ball doesn't get canceled. Copious cartoon-style illustrations (frequently including speech bubbles) pair perfectly with a fast-moving text. Short sentences and lots of action make this book ideal for newly independent readers. (c) Copyright 2016. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
