Review by Booklist Review

This author trio, known for their Kids Activities blog and extensive social media presence, have written a fun- and fact-filled book (with a nifty glow-in-the-dark cover) of kid-friendly science experiments. The experiments are divided into sections: Kitchen Chemistry (e.g., dissolving ink), Physics and Making Things Move (e.g., balloon-powered cars), Exploring the World (e.g., creating atom models), and The Human Body (e.g., making bendy bones). All experiments use readily available household supplies, and graphics indicate when safety precautions or adult supervision is needed, as well as how messy the experiment might be. The design is superb: engaging text is written for kids, in varying colored fonts, accompanied throughout by full-color photos or illustrations, and each experiment states the prep time, experiment duration, expected outcome, and the science of why it worked. Many also list variations without revealing the expected result, and Did you know? boxes contain interesting additional facts. A great choice for young scientists at home and for library STEM collections.--Rawlins, Sharon Copyright 2016 Booklist
