Review by Booklist Review
Rather than giving an overview of the causes and effects of WWII, these books in the Action Force: World War II series delve into the military forces, operatives, and weapons. Following a slight introduction to the war, each title looks at how different Allied and Axis countries developed their military branches and special operations, highlighting technological advances that resulted. Complemented by archival photos and fact boxes, the text provides just the right amount of details to young readers. Navy examines how Japan had one of the largest navies at the time and why it attacked the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, as well as the success of submarines, aircraft carriers, and destroyers. Each volume includes case-study battles and operatives and concludes with information about final battles and missions. A high-interest addition to an already high-interest topic.--Leeper, Angela Copyright 2016 Booklist
