Breslin takes his title from a quote by baseball great Casey Stengel, who asked that question of his players while managing the New York Mets during their first year as a team in 1962. The answer pretty much was a resounding noDthe team lost 140 of 162 games. Luckily, they improved quickly and snagged a World Series a few years later. Breslin's 1963 volume recalls it all.
