Wonder Woman

Greg Rucka

Book - 2017

"Heroic. Iconic. Unstoppable. Armed with her Lasso of Truth and imbued with the power of the gods themselves, Princess Diana of Themyscira--known to the world as Wonder Woman--is one of the greatest superheroes in history. But who is she...really? Not even Wonder Woman herself knows for sure. Diana's links to both the Amazons and the Gods of Olympus have been severed. Her memories are a tangle of contradictions that even her lie-detecting lasso cannot untangle. To solve the riddle of her origin, she must embark on her greatest quest of all: finding a way back to her vanished home. To get there, she must team up with her greatest enemy, the feral beast-woman, Cheetah. Will this unlikely alliance shine the light of truth on Diana...39;s darkest secrets, or bury them--and her--forever?"--

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Eisner-winner Rucka tries to uncover who Wonder Woman is as a person, beyond her powers and her association with fellow superheroes. Rucka is a Wonder Woman veteran, having written the character off and on for more than a decade. Rebirth, a massive reboot that redefined every DC Comics superhero, theoretically gives Rucka the opportunity to rebuild the character from the ground up; unfortunately, like many other writers, he fails to make Wonder Woman an interesting personality. Rucka's narrative follows her as she attempts to reconcile her erratic memories and track down the suddenly missing Themyscira, the island where she's from. Unlike Batman or Spider-Man, Wonder Woman's motivation for superheroism isn't clear, and consequently her quest lacks urgency. Sharp's (Testament) rich art, which wonderfully depicts Wonder Woman's battles against monsters and demons deep in the jungle, slightly redeems the book. (Feb.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC.
