Review by Booklist Review

Patterned after the MIT-designed online programming project Scratch, ScratchJr targets a younger demographic and teaches programming through storytelling. Bers and Resnick, as some of the founders of ScratchJr, have hands-on experience with the program and have written a book that is both helpful and fun for parents, educators, and children. Divided into four sections, the first chapter walks young programmers through the very basics of ScratchJr, while the remaining chapters are about activities that build towards a larger project. In step-by-step instructions with plenty of screen grabs, the format is child (and tech-fearful parent) friendly while encouraging children to solve problems. There are plenty of hints along the way for those who need them, and additional challenges, too. While the book may target parents who are helping to teach their children, it's easy enough to follow and engaging enough that kids are more than capable of tackling the projects alone.--Linsenmeyer, Erin Copyright 2016 Booklist
