Eugene Flystein, secretly the superhero Super Fly, thinks everything will run smoothly since banishing bully and evil villain Crazy Cockroach (secret identity: Cornelius C. Roach) to the moon, so he and Fred Flea are shocked when Cornelius returns to school. With two dung beetles, Dee and Doo, as his minions, it's not long before Cornelius plots a new evil plan by giving students an exciting video game. Any bug that plays it turns into a mindless zombie who will do anything Crazy Cockroach tells them to do! When Fred succumbs to the allure of the game, Eugene has no one else to turn to but his younger sister, Elle, to help save the citizens of Stinkopolis. In the second volume of his laugh-a-minute series, Doodler continues the hilarious superhero antics of nerdy Eugene. Readers who enjoy cheesy, pun-filled humor will laugh out loud at Eugene's adventures and appreciate Elle's stronger presence. Doodler's cartoonish, adorable line drawings also add to the overall humor. A great new series for fans of Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants.--Tomsu, Lindsey Copyright 2016 Booklist

Gr 2-4-In this second installment of the comical and fast-paced series, Eugene Flystein returns in his nerd-turned-superhero role. Thanks to the Ultimo 6-9000 pie he consumed, he is 9,000 times stronger, faster, and better than the average bug. Being a superhero helps him keep evil at bay in Stinkopolis. Just when he thought he had seen the last of the villainous Cornelius Cockroach, he is back at Brown Barge Elementary. At first, Cornelius seems oddly benign, but then his nefarious scheming becomes apparent. Super Fly and his sidekick, Fantastic Flea, team up to stop the evil Cornelius and his henchmen, Dee and Doo Dung, from taking over the world with a hypnotic video game, Butterfly Bombers. Eugene's little sister Elle gets in on the silly antics after she also takes a bite of the Ultimo and becomes Fly Girl. Readers whose funny bones are tickled by all things icky and disgusting are bound to fall in love with Super Fly. Black-and-white illustrations throughout help bring the story and characters to life. VERDICT Fans of the first book and connoisseurs of potty humor will happily devour this sequel.-Laura Fields Eason, Parker Bennett Curry Elementary School, Bowling Green, KY © Copyright 2016. The mighty muscid gets some unexpected help in this rematch with his greatest foe (Super Fly, 2015). Having left Crazy Cockroach, aka school bully Cornelius C. Roach, squashed under a moon rock in the previous episode, fourth-grade supernerd Eugene Flystein is understandably dismayed when his archenemy reappears at Brown Barge Elementary, roaches being notoriously hard to kill. Furthermore, from a combination lair and clubhouse in a used diaper, Crazy Cockroach begins passing out copies of a strangely addictive video game that brainwashes everyone into voting him class presidentto start. Even Super Fly's sidekick and "pest friend," Fred Flea, falls under the roach's spell. Fortunately, Super Fly isn't left to counter this latest threat to Stinkopolis (and the world) alone, as his snoopy little sister, Elle, finds the very special key lime pie that triggers super smarts and powers and becomes, ta-da! Fly Girl! Slathering his narrative with silly cartoon line drawings and alimentary humor ("Doody calls!"), Doodler caps his latest fetid face-off with a hard-fought game of ping-pong ("suspense hung like a fart inside the diaper") that leads to well-earned, if temporary triumph. Readers will scent further sequels on the wind. Another "High flyve!" for the dump's doughty defenders. (Superhero farce. 7-9) Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
